Pro Art hopes to count Count B final as a victory

With three wins and two seconds in his last five starts, underachiever Pro Art seems to be coming into his own and the gelded son of Artsplace is the 5-2 favorite going into the $50,000 final of The Count B Pacing Series on Friday night at Woodbine. Pro Art had a win in the first leg two weeks ago and a game second-place finish last Friday to Nanuets Z Tam.

Relatively new to New York-based trainer Mark Ford’s barn, Pro Art was under the tutelage of Puslinch, Ontario’s Mike Vanderkemp before going through the Harrisburg sale last fall.

"He’s a tremendously bred colt," said Ford. "He’s out of $1.29 million earner, Town Pro, and a half-brother to Darlin's Delight. I don’t think he’s a Grand Circuit type of horse, but he’s done everything we’ve asked of him so far, and I’m anxious to see how he gets along tomorrow night. He’s a nice little horse.

"He’d made a little money as a 2 year old, but only had one pari-mutuel win and was paid into a lot of events, so we have tried to take advantage of that. He’ll probably come back to the Meadowlands after this for the Youthful or the Matts Scooter…we’re going to play it by ear."

Pro Art will have the assistance of a prime post position in The Count B final for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings who were non-winners of three races or $30,000(C) lifetime as of Oct. 31, 2007. Catch the action in race eight, post time 9:50 p.m., on a card which will also feature the second leg of the Ontario Girls Series for 4-year-old distaff pacers. (WEG)
