Pro Bono Best moving to Indiana

October 19, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The connections of Metro Pace winner Pro Bono Best p, 2, 1:51s ($509,717) are pleased to announce that the 9-year-old Cambest stallion will be leaving New York State and will be standing at Schwartz Boarding Farm LLC in slots-approved Indiana for the 2008 breeding season.

Owned by John Levy Racing Ltd., Mark Scholes and Des Tackoor Racing Inc., Pro Bono Best burst onto the North American scene in 2000 at two, made 12 starts and compiled a record of 7-1-3. In addition to the bay's sweep of the Metro Pace at Woodbine--where he took his mark of 1:51 in the final--Pro Bono Best also captured divisions of both the Champlain and Nassagaweya Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack.

Trained throughout his racing career by Des Tackoor, Pro Bono Best is leaving New York, where in 2007 he was the second leading sire of 3-year-old pacers, behind only Bettor's Delight.

Pro Bono Best's sub-1:50 winners consists of geldings Bono Bests (1:49.3, Meadowlands) and Most Happy Keene (1:49.4, The Red Mile), both of whom took their marks at four.

Courtesy of his recent 1:51 victory at the Red Mile, 2-year-old colt Corner Blitz is one of the fastest freshman pacers on the continent this year. Three-year-old filly Paulas Best has earned a good deal of money in the New York Sire Stakes, banking $269,155 from her 17 career starts.

For the past breeding season in New York, Pro Bono Best stood for a fee of $4,000. At the Schwartz Boarding Farm in 2008, he will stand for a fee of $3,000.

An Exceptional Mare Discount will also be available if the mare earned $100,000 or more; has a mark of 1:55 or better; or has produced progeny in 1:55 or better. If any of the three criteria are met, the owner will receive a second breeding for free in the same or following year. (John Levy Racing Ltd.)
