The 2-year-old colt pacer Blue Shark, who started in an Arden Downs division at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Saturday but made a break and did not finish the race, suffered a shattered pastern bone in his right hind leg and has been euthanized, trainer Erv Miller told harnessracing.com Monday afternoon.
After winning baby races at Gaitway Farm and the Meadowlands in June, Blue Shark won his pari-mutuel debut in 1:52.4 July 10 at the Meadowlands, pacing his final quarter in :25.4 for the victory. He followed that up July 28 with a 1:53.1 win at Harrah's Chester.
A son of Four Starzzz Shark out of the Life Sign mare Crystal Blue, Blue Shark was bred by White Birch Farm and was a $45,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase by Brittany Farms, Dynasty Stable and Mac Nichol.
