Provincial Cup still May 29

The Ontario Racing Commission has ruled that Windsor Raceway must hold the Provincial Cup for 3-year-old colt pacers on May 29 as advertised. The track, citing concerns over a three-week delay in racing in January, had asked for permission to move the race to December.



The track earlier simply announced the race would move from May to December, but that decision hit a roadblock when the commission and horsemen balked. Upon advice of the commission, Windsor mailed out letters in early March asking for a vote, but that if responses weren't received by March 14 then it would be considered a "yes" vote to change the date. Trainer Kelly O'Donnell, who nominated a couple of horses to the Provincial Cup, told The Horseman he did not want to see the race moved but that he had also never received that letter.
