Psilvuheartbreaker wins eventful Yonkers open

May 22, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Psilvuheartbreaker (Cat Manzi) was bothered but not bloodied Saturday night, winning Yonkers  Raceway's eventful $37,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Leaving from post position four among the half-dozen, "Heartbreaker" leapfrogged the lead with interloper Golden Receiver through early intervals of :27.1 and :55.4. Art's Ragin' Jet (Jim Pantaleano), hanging in despite taking a lot of air, was supplying unwanted company.

However, Golden Receiver, as the 7-5 choice, seemed poised to complete a weekend sweep of the three local Open Handicaps for driver Jeff Gregory and trainer Mark Harder...that is, until he threw in steps by the 1:24 three-quarters.

That created a scene, with four horses bothered by the breaker to one degree or another. "Art" came away with the lead turning for home,  but Psilvuheartbreaker slid out between Golden Receiver and Art's Ragin' Jet.  He prevailed over "Art" by a half-length in a season's-best 1:52.3. Golden Receiver finished third, but was placed fifth for his transgression.

Giddy Up Lucky (Jason Bartlett) was moved from fourth to third, while Deuce Seelster (Jordan Stratton) was fifth-placed-fourth.

For Psilvuheartbreaker, a millionaire 7-year-old Nobleland Sam gelding owned by Frank Bellino and trained by Bruce Saunders, he returned $5.20  (second choice) for his fourth win in 19 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $33.80, the triple returned $89.50. (Yonkeres)
