Pure Ivory qualifies

Pure Ivory, winner of last year’s O’Brien award for 2-year-old fillies, turned in a 2:00.1 winning qualifying mile Tuesday morning at Mohawk.

Driven by Roger Mayotte, the 3-year-old filly by Striking Sahbra hung tight in third most of the mile, but stepped home in :29 to win by two lengths. She is owned by Steve Condren, Christina Maxwell, Harry Rutherford and Jerry Vanboekel and trained by Brad Maxwell.


Pure Ivory posted a line of 10-1-1 from 14 starts last year with earnings of $403,307. She won the Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final, divisions of the Robert Stewart and Champlain Stakes and eliminations of the Oakville Stakes and the Breeders Crown. She was the runner-up to Passionate Glide in the Dan Patch balloting.

Peaceful Way, winner of last year's Dan Patch award for older mare trotters and winner of nearly $2 million lifetime, made a break early in her qualifier and finished a distanced sixth.
