On the heels of news of a lawsuit by horsemen over slots revenue sharing, the isle casino & racing at Pompano Park announced Tuesday there will be a significant increase in purse money beginning Friday, May 18. The purse increase announcement comes following news that the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association has filed a lawsuit over its share of the slots revenue at Pompano Park.
According to the press release issued by The isle Casino & Racing at Pompano Park, the purse increase is a result of slot machine revenue generated at the new casino.
“We are pleased to say that on average our purses will increase approximately 45 percent and in some of our more popular race classes, the purse will rise more than 50 percent,” said Corporate Vice President of Racino Operations and General Manager Doug Shipley. “It was exciting to see patrons visiting our new casino when we opened the first floor last month. Next week, we will open the second floor and racing patrons will experience a truly blended racino with wagering and viewing areas in one building. The isle remains committed to our pledge that gaming revenues will benefit the racing program as well as education programs in the state of Florida.” Under the current purse structure, average nightly purses at the isle casino & racing at pompano park are approximately $40,000. The new increase will bring the purse average to $60,000 per night for the summer meet that ends Aug. 4, with an additional purse increase expected when the fall/winter meeting opens on Sept. 14.
