The Sacramento Harness Association has announced that on Friday, Oct. 26, purses will increase at Cal-Expo.

"We are pleased to offer a well-deserved purse increase for our claiming horses competing in the lower classes," said Dick Feinberg, general manager of Sacramento Harness.  "These horses have sustained our program and filled out many race cards over the past few months and this is one way we can show our appreciation."

Starting this Friday, the minimum purse will be raised to $2,500 for all $2,000 claiming races.  All $3,000 claiming races will be raced for $2,700.

Additionally, in the Open one, two, and three classes, anytime there is a nine or 10-horse field, the purse will be raised $1,000.

"With the help of the California Harness Horseman's Association, we have been able to recover a significant portion of our overpayment, which puts us in a position to begin to adjust our purses upward," Feinberg concluded.

In racing action Wednesday night at Cal-Expo, Ohoka Jasper N made a successful North American debut, winning the $4,900 featured trot in 1:56.2.

Trainer Rick Plano was in the bike for owner Viginia Schick, who recently purchased the 7-year-old Village Jasper gelding for $25,000. (Cal-Expo)
