Officials at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino have announced the first purse increase in relation to the casino expansion project. Starting Monday daily overnight purses increased 28 percent.

Minutes before Monday's first race, John Marshall, general manager of racing operations and Kim Hankins, executive director of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Organization (MSOA) jointly announced the news in the paddock. The news was received with applause from trainers, drivers, grooms and staff.

Bill Paulos of Millennium Gaming said, “Management and the MSOA worked very hard to put together the purse increase. This is the tip of the iceberg for purse potential at The Meadows. Every effort will be made to ensure The Meadows harness racing is among North America’s very best.”

MSOA Board president Stu Williams commented, “Our members have worked long and hard to help bring this opportunity to fruition. We sincerely appreciate the cooperation of Mr. Paulos and his team. Our Board looks forward to future cooperative efforts together with track management and our members.”

Stall applications are being accepted by the Race Office through March 9. Meadows management notes preference will be given to horsemen who have campaigned in the last 24 months. To request stall applications please contact the Race Office at (724) 225-9897.

The temporary casino featuring 1,800 slot machines is scheduled to open in May 2007. For more information visit www.meadowsgaming.com. (The Meadows)
