The Meadowlands will implement a 10 percent purse increase beginning with the Wednesday, June 6, racing card, which marks the second across-the-board purse increase this spring.
Meadowlands purses were first increased in April, along with the addition of a program which gives a 20 percent bonus to New Jersey-sired horses earning purse checks in “non-restrictive” overnight races.
"The Meadowlands continues to offer the highest average overnight purses in harness racing,” said Director of Standardbred Racing Tad Stockman. "The current structure rewards the younger horses as well as claimers and the top level horses.
"This is the last year of the current casino supplement,” Stockman added. “We have a target number for year-end purses that allows us to raise the purses approximately 10 percent across the board." (Meadowlands)
