There were some big miles by the gals on a 74-degree night at the Meadowlands on Friday, with Put On A Show (1:51.2), On The Glass (1:49) and Seaside (1:53.2) taking new lifetime marks.
Put On A Show, a winner of seven of nine starts and $732,308 last year, was making her first start of the season in a New Jersey Sire Stakes. The filly by Rocknroll Hanover started from post two and was raced off the pace by driver Tim Tetrick until the last half of the mile. With a :27 last quarter, she won by three lengths over She Just Rocks.
Chris Ryder trains Put On A Show for owners Craig Henderson and Richard and Joanne Young.
A second NJSS division went to Rock N Soul, who raced second for most of the mile and finished second, but was placed first when Court Stenographer, driven by George Brennan, was disqualified and placed third. Mark Harder trains Rock N Soul, who won two of nine starts last season.
After racing in the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series at Yonkers, On The Glass moved over to the Meadowlands mile and lowered her mark by two full seconds. The 4-year-old mare by Art Major was put on the lead past the quarter and cruised on to a victory for driver Yannick Gingras.
On The Glass, who is owned by Joseph Di Scala Jr. and Cynthia Lynn Massari, won her eighth race in 15 starts this year. She is trained by Ron Burke.
Finally, Seaside, the winner of last year's Kentucky Futurity Filly Stakes, rebounded from a break behind the gate the previous week to win and lower her career mark. David Miller put the daughter of Yankee Glide on the lead and she went on to defeat The Budster. Jonas Czernyson trains Seaside for Tom Dillon.
