Although she won't get official credit for her effort, Queen Serene tied the all-age world record for female trotters set by Beat The Wheel in 1994 and equaled by Peaceful Way in 2005 with a stunning 1:51.4 effort in a Thursday morning qualifier at the Meadowlands. With trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer, Queen Serene took over past the opening :27 quarter and set fractions of :5.3 and 1:24.2 before closing out the mile with a final quarter of :27.2 to romp by 19 1/4 lengths over 2006 Breeders Crown fourth-place finisher Berto Primo.
Just as Beat The Wheel and Peaceful Way were both four at the time of their record efforts, so too is Queen Serene, with the trio now sharing the divisional record as well.
Last year Queen Serene established a new world record for 3-year-old trotting fillies with a 1:52 victory in the Kentucky Filly Futurity at The Red Mile. This year the daughter of Dream Vacation has two thirds in four starts, including show finishes in the Conway Hall at Vernon Downs and Classic Oaks final at Mohawk, with that June 16 her last start before Thursday's qualifier.
