Quinella back at Maywood

Maywood Park’s 2007 wagering format will offer both something old as well as something new in its gimmick format as it is bringing back the Quinella, a very popular exotic wager of the 1960s, ‘70s and early ‘80s on the local circuit.

The Quinella wager has been absent in Chicago for the last two decades. The Quinella will reappear in 2007 on the fifth race of both the Thursday and Friday Maywood Park programs and it will carry a $5 minimum wager.

For those fans who don’t remember the Quinella, unlike the Exacta, the Quinella doesn’t require the first two finishers in exact order for you to have a winning ticket. You’re a winner when you select the first two race finishers—irrespective of order—on a Quinella ticket.

The new 2007 gimmick wager at Maywood Park is the Pick Five that can be played for only 50 cents. The Pick Five will be offered on Thursday and Friday cards on races 8 through 12 and replaces the previous second Pick Four bet. A Pick Four will remain on races 4, 5 and 6 in 2007. Both the Pick 4 and 5 wagers will have carryovers if the event no one correctly has a winning ticket.

As in 2006, an Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta will be offered on every Maywood Park live race in 2007 when applicable. (Maywood Park)
