The American Harness Racing Secretaries (AHRS) held their 43rd annual business meeting in conjunction with the annual stakes scheduling sessions and in addition to planning the 2008 calendar, the group also gave its first honorary membership of the AHRS to Carol Cramer, who for many years has compiled the Stakes Guide and the Stakes & Futurities Nomination Book.

In other business at the meeting, held Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Deerfield Beach, Fla., the AHRS members reviewed the proposed US Trotting Association Rules & By-Law changes, and their recommendations have been forwarded to the USTA board for its annual board meeting.

The AHRS revised its own by-laws and conducted a round table discussion regarding problems in the racing offices and exchanged ideas as to solutions and improvements.

In addition, retired racing secretaries and former presidents Jim Ewart, Frank Ferone, Mike MacCormac and Bruce Munn were honored as directors emeriti and Joe DeFrank was selected as chairman emeritus.

Officers were chosen for the next two years. Tom Charters, president of the Hambletonian Society, was elected president; Kevin Mack, director of racing at Hoosier Park and general manager & racing secretary of The Red Mile, was elected vice-president; and Sharon Herrmann was re-elected secretary and Treasurer.  Outgoing president Peter Koch, race secretary at Freehold, was recognized for his service to the association.
