One of Canada's great race mares has been retired. Peaceful Way, a winner of 33 races and purse earnings of more than $2.7 million, was retired Monday by her ownership group. Her last race was the Breeders Crown Mare Trot elimination at Mohawk last Friday night, and she broke stride at the start and finished last.
Peaceful Way has been most recently campaigned by the Goin My Way Stable, Marvin Katz, Al Libfeld and Sam Goldband; Dave Tingley, also the trainer of the horse; and Angie Stiller, who bred the daughter of Angus Hall.
"All the owners have been privileged to have such an outstanding mare as Peaceful Way come into everyone's lives," said the owners in a statement. "A special thanks to groom Isabelle Guignard, drivers Trevor Ritchie, Chris Christoforou, John Campbell and Paul MacDonnell for their help in adding to her legacy."
Peaceful Way retires as the richest Canadian-bred trotting mare of all-time and was a four-time O'Brien Award winner.
Woodbine Entertainment Group plans to honor Peaceful Way in a retirement ceremony on Maple Leaf Trot night (Sept. 15) at Mohawk, when she will lead the post parade before the 2007 edition of the race. (Woodbine)
