While NASCAR was stopped in Atlanta for another big race, Racsan John won the $14,000 feature at Dover Downs Sunday. Don Hawk and trainer Dan Warrington bred and own the veteran gelding and gave him the first name of Racsan, NASCAR spelled backwards. Hawk worked for legendary driver Dale Earnhardt for many years.
Vic Kirby made good use of starting from post one with Racsan John. After getting away third, Kirby moved the game 9 year old to the lead just past the opening and then led the rest of a 1:53.3 mile to win for the first time this year. Lennox NZ (Jon Roberts) had a perfect trip sitting second the mile with Bad Rusty (Eddie Davis Jr.) coming on for third.
Ross Wolfenden posted his third win of the night driving 11-1 Pedo Doc to a come-from-behind 1:54 win in one of two $25,000 claiming paces. The Cam's Card Shark gelding picked up his second victory of the year for Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta to win. (Dover Downs)
