Rags to riches at Tioga

Tioga Downs will try a new concept in the series department this summer with the Rags to Riches, designed to mirror the single elimination format of the recently concluded NCAA basketball tourney. The idea for the format evolved from the fervor throughout the country for the “March Madness” that Tioga chairman Jeff Gural observed each year.

The series requires nominees to have started for a base claiming price of $10,000 (US) or less between April 15 and May 27, 2007. There will be no claiming price on horses racing in the series, so they may not be claimed throughout the event. The conditions are rather extensive and Tioga Downs strongly suggests trainers considering nominating a horse to the series familiarize themselves with those conditions. The Rags to Riches begins on Sunday, June 3, and will be raced on each of the four Sundays of the month, concluding with the final for an estimated $100,000 on the 24th. Any questions should be directed to the Tioga Downs racing office at (607) 699-7688.
