The 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding Railee Possible overcame an extended first-over trip to prevail in Monday’s featured $10,000 Open I Trot at Pompano Park in 1:56.3. Driven from post five by David Ingraham, Railee Possible dropped back to fourth place through the early stages of the Monday feature as Talk About Me (Mickey McNichol) emerged from a brief two-horse battle with the lead, taking the field through an opening quarter mile in :29. As the trotters moved by the grandstand for the first time, Railee Possible was angled off the pylons to begin his overland journey, grinding his way up to second place as Talk About Me reached the half-mile pole in :58.4. Railee Possible continued to track Talk About Me from the outside as the trotters made their way down the backstretch, hitting the three-quarters marker in 1:28.1. Talk About Me entered the lane with a one-length advantage, but the unrelenting assault from Railee Possible wore down the leader by mid-stretch, and the Veral Bowman trainee trotted clear in the final yards to score by 1 ¼ lengths at the wire over a late-charging Muscular (Dave Mercer).
Owned by Frank and Inge Smith of Deerfield Beach, Railee Possible has visited the winner’s circle in five of 12 starts this year, while hitting the board 10 times. Monday’s victory pushed the gelding’s career bankroll over the $150,000 mark. (Pompano Park release)
