Ranger doubles up in Pompano features

Driver Bruce Ranger was able to capture both feature races at the Isle Pompano Park Saturday.

 

Ranger, 49, started off the evening lead from start to finish with I Can Only Imagine ($2.60) in the first race $16,000 Open Pace. Cutting fractions of :28.1, :56.2 and 1:25, I Can Only Imagine kicked in a final quarter mile in :27.2 to win by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:52.2.

 

The pocket-sitting Monet C C (Anthony Napolitano) was second with McRyan Michael (Joe Pavia Jr.) third.

 

It was the fifth win in 10 starts this year for I Can Only Imagine. The 7-year-old stallion by Cole Muffler is trained by Tom Harmer and is owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, N.Y.

 

Ranger then returned to the winner’s circle in the seventh race $12,000 pace with Cape Karuna ($10.20). Coming from off the pace, Ranger was able to closed with a burst of speed from fourth place at the top of the stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:53.3.

 

Closing from fifth place to finish second was JJ’s Gazette (Dan Clements) with Star Role (Anthony Napolitano) third. It was the third straight win for Cape Karuna, a 6-year-old gelding by Cape Crusader, trained and co-owned by Peter Blood with Rick Berks and Roger Slobody.

 

Ranger ended the night with three victories on the program. (Pompano Park)
