Rare Jewel is returning to defend his Molson Pace title at London’s Western Fair Raceway, with the 7-year-old Artiscape gelding drawing outside in a field of six starters in the sixth race Friday night in one of the two eliminations for the London track's signature annual race.
Owned by Norman Vartanian, Rare Jewel will be trained by Susanne Kerwood for his return to Canada. The winner of $882,884 lifetime had most recently been competing in the Levy Series at Yonkers.
Chris Christoforou was in the bike with Rare Jewel when he front ended his way to victory at Western Fair on June 1, 2007 to win the Molson Pace in a track record equaling performance of 1:53. Christoforou has been hired back for Rare Jewel’s return to London this Friday night. Here is the draw for the two $25,000(C) Molson Pace eliminations, with the top four in each returning for the $280,000(C) final May 30:
