RC Royalty reigns at MR

RC Royalty pummeled his New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) foes and the Monticello Raceway track record for 3-year-old trotting colts with a double-digit length, 1:57.4 win Tuesday afternoon. Trainer-driver Dan Daley and RC Royalty reached the front end just before the :30 quarter, then used a :28.4 second quarter to open up on the field over a track rated “good” due to rain.

The Winner hung on for second while Algiers Hall, who never made it to the gate due to a break and spotted the field 20 lengths at the start, rallied for third.

Raymond Campbell owns and bred RC Royalty, a son of Credit Winner. He broke the old track mark of 1:58.3 set on June 25, 2000 by Armbro Trick and Jeff Gregory. Armbro Trick went on to finish third to Yankee Paco in that year’s Hambletonian.

RC Royalty was coming off a 28-length, 1:56.1 qualifier win at Vernon Downs last Friday, Aug. 22. He made a break in his last start, a Hambletonian elimination. He also made an extended break in his last start at Monticello, a NYSS on July 22 in which he managed to finish third as the overwhelming favorite.
