Two important 120,000 euro races for 3-year-olds were raced under bad conditions after rain at the Vincennes track in Paris on Saturday.
The Prix Paul Viel resulted in an upset win for Atlas de Joudes (by Ready Cash, yes, the two-time Prix d'Amerique winner). Driven by Joseph Verbeeck, he is owned and trained by Philippe Allaire, who also owns Ready Cash. The nice colt won when the big favorite, Akim du Cap Vert (First de Retz), made a break coming for home. Atlas de Joudes was timed in a mile rate of 1:59 over 2,175 meters and earned about $78,000.
The filly division carries the name of the old trotting queen Roquepine. Alizea du Kastel (Quaker Jet-Kalida Jet) beat the Verbeeck/Allaire entry Axelle Dark (Ready Cash). The winner was timed in a miel rate of 2:01.2 over 2,175 meters and also earned about $78,0000. She is trained and was driven by Em. Allard. Axelle Dark has four wins and three seconds with earnings of 234,000 euros already.--By Lars G. Palm
