Nineteen groups of 2-year-old pacers and trotters faced the starter on Thursday morning at The Meadows, with a trio of pacers from the Ron Burke Stable taking top honors with the fastest times of the day.
Foxy Lady, a filly by Real Desire, won her event in 1:57.2, with a last half in :57.4 and :28.3 final panel. Dave Palone drove the winner for owners Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stable and Phillip Collura.
Another Burke Stable filly, Fashion Mystery (Real Artist) was a tick slower, winning her qualifying race in 1:57.3 with a :58 last half. Owned by George Leon, Fashion Mystery covered the last quarter in :28.2 for Palone.
The top pacing colt of the day was Hugadragon, a Burke Stable homebred by Dragon Again out of Hip Huggers, a former top level pacing mare at The Meadows. Hugadragon, who won a qualifier last week in 2:00.4, paced the mile in 1:58.3, with a last half in :57.3 and a blistering last quarter of :26.3 for the win. Palone was the winning driver. Among trotters, KT Tag I'm It, a homebred by Tagliabue out of the mare KT Troublein Dixie, was a 2:01 winner for owner-trainer Ken Weaver and driver Eddie McNeight. The gelding came his last half in :58.2 for the impressive win. The fastest trotting filly of the day was My Good Side, a Broadway Hall filly owned by Tom Barrett. Trainer-driver Steve Schoeffel brought her home in 2:02.1, two-fifths shy of the 2:01.4 mark that she recorded on a June 5 qualifying win.
