Driver David Miller capped off a good night at the Meadowlands Thursday by winning the $43,315 Fox Sports Net final with Real Hanover in 1:50.4.
Real Hanover rallied from off the pace to win by 1 1/4 lengths over betting favorite Apache Hotspur, one of a trio of Nelson Willis trainees. Real Hanover paid $9.60.
Miller sat behind Real Hanover back on Feb. 10, finishing fifth in a preliminary round of the Exit 16W Series, but when the horse won a leg of the Fox Sports Net, Ron Pierce was in the bike.
As for the winning trip Thursday night, Miller said, " I was following a couple of good horses. The flow wasn’t moving up, but they were setting a hot pace (a :27 flat second quarter).. My horse felt good all the way around the last turn. He had a good hold of me, and I fanned him out. He started digging. It was just a matter of getting there, and he kept coming. At this point, he’s on top of his game right now and racing very sharp.”
It was Miller’s second Fox Sports Net trophy. He won the 2005 edition with Shu Hanover.
Real Hanover, trained by Rodney Bolon, was purchased privately by James Snyder of Wooster, Ohio, last Nov. 7.
Miller won both ends of the Daily Double. One of those victories was with Maltese Malcolm, a trotter owned by his wife, Misty.
