Real Velocity, guided by Jason Dillander, raced down the stretch to win the $23,000 Fillies and Mares Invitational Friday, June 6. The win was Real Velocity’s eighth trip to the winner’s circle this season, and 11th in her lifetime. Me and My Baby, controlled by Joe Essig Jr., fired out of the sixth post to take an early lead over the field. Charging past the quarter-mile mark in :28.0, Me and My Baby held onto the lead with Ready to Rumba, managed by Don Irvine Jr., and Camphor Hanover, controlled by Brad Hanners, pursuing. Down the backstretch, Real Velocity passed Me and My Baby to take the lead before reaching the halfway mark in :56.4. Reaching the three-quarter mile mark in 1:26.3, Real Velocity controlled the top spot. In the stretch, Me and My Baby tried to close in on Real Velocity. Nearing the 16th pole, Real Velocity pulled away from Me and My Baby to win in 1:54.2 by two lengths, posting a final panel in :27.4. Me and My Baby and Get Down Sally, commanded by Rick Farrington, rounded out the top three, respectively, over the sloppy track surface. Owned by TKO Racing Stable of Greenfield, Ind., Real Velocity has earned over $339,000 in her lifetime. The four-year-old Real Artist mare returned $3.80, $2.20, and $2.60 as the favorite in the race. She is trained by Trent Stohler, who also conditioned her mother, Extreme Velocity, who earned nearly $1 million during her racing career and was a winner in the 1998 Breeders’ Crown at The Meadowlands.
