Record-breaking win number moves to 1,189

Five months into 2008 and it seems Tim Tetrick can’t stop winning races—last year. Because of various positive tests on horses in 2007 that have since altered some previously-noted official finishes, Tetrick’s record-breaking win total of 1,188 is now recorded at 1,189 victories.

Overall, Tetrick’s numbers have risen by one win and decreased by one second-place finish and one third-place finish. His stats now read: 4,728 starts, 1,189 wins, 801 seconds and 604 thirds. His purse earnings have risen to $18,350,047, an increase of $7,680 from the numbers noted at the end of 2007.

Two of the latest three changes over the past few weeks occurred as a result of the resolution of positive tests at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and Dover Downs.

In early March, Tetrick lost a victory when his horse Hang Time, trained by James McGuire, was disqualified from first to ninth following a positive test for an excess level of flunixin in a race at Pocono April 27, 2007.

In early April, Tetrick gained the win back when his horse Cross The Line was moved from second to first after the winner, the Michael Hall-trained Art’s Sake, tested positive for the Class IV drug Isoflupredone following a race Jan. 14, 2007, at Dover Downs. His other gained victory came in a change made April 16 with Hesoneinamillion, who was moved up to first from second in a race at Pocono Downs on April 28, 2007, when the winner, the Tom Stamper-trained Beach Romance N, tested positive for an excess level of flunixin.

Changes are made to stats all the time when a final decision is rendered on unresolved races. One of the most famous instances came in 1981 when the year finished with Eddie Davis capturing the dash title with 404 victories, one more than Herve Filion.

However, Filion was the driver of Willow Bust, who finished second to Savilla Lobell in the famous 1981 Sweetheart Pace. After that case was decided after years in the courtroom, Willow Bust was named the official winner--and gave Filion his 404th win in 1981, tying Davis some three years later.
