Records fall at Running Aces

June 21, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

An unprecedented three track records fell Sunday (June 20) at Running Aces Harness Park, as horses strutted their stuff before a packed Father's Day crowd at the lightning quick Minnesota five-eighths-mile oval.

Carol Jean (Jon Anderson) got the ball rolling in the very first race with a three length score in the $2,500 first leg of the Future Stars late-closing trotting series for non-winners of one race. The daughter of Revenue established a new standard for 4-year-old female trotters with the 1:59 triumph over Battleshoe Viola (J.D. Perrin) and Gaye's Finale (Adam Short).

Marsha's Place, a 4-year-old Minnesota-sired daughter of Place To Be, became the fastest-ever mare of that age with a 1:54.1 tally for driver Dan Poprawski in a $4,500 conditioned pace. She bested River Tsunami (Adam Hauser) and Puddin Tame (Rick Magee) in the record-setting mile.

Teleios, a 7-year-old gelding at the top of his game, equaled the all-age track trotting record with a 1:58 tally from an assigned outer post in the $8,000 Open Handicap. Driver Rick Magee got away fourth with Teleios, came second over past the half, and swept to victory in the stretch over Miss In Love (Steve Wiseman) and stablemate Simply Patty (Dean Magee). Cliff Makin conditions the winner, who is now the co-holder of the track trotting standard with DW's Perky Joe, who also happened to win on the same Sunday card in a $5,000 conditioned trot.

It was the fourth track record of the week as the Wednesday program saw a 5-year-old mare named Fanya Hanover win a $3,500 conditioned pace in 1:55.1 for owner-trainer-driver Evan Coblentz. It was the speediest mile by a distaffer over age five since the track opened in 2008.

With the larger purses, fuller fields and additional new stables competing at Running Aces this season, additional track standards are bound to be set in the ten weeks remaining on the live racing calendar. (Running Aces)
