Macho Lindy trotted the fastest mile in Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs' history in a conditioned win on Monday afternoon, and his winning time of 1:52 also set a world record for 4-year-old trotting geldings and the North American mark for all trotters on a five-eighths-mile oval. Leaving from post position seven in the 13th race conditioned trot for non-winners of $8,850 in their last five starts, Macho Lindy gunned right to the lead with Larry Stalbaum in the bike. He set imposing fractions of :27.2, :56.2, and 1:23.2 as he drew clear from the rest of the field. In the stretch, the 4-year-old gelding from the Kimberly Asher barn sped home without any urging from Stalbaum, 5 1/4 lengths ahead of the nearest competitor to set the 1:52 mark. The previous Pocono trotting record of 1:52.4 was set last year by Mystical Sunshine and matched a few weeks ago by Scorpion Moon. The previous North American record of 1:52.2 was shared by Enough Talk, Gabby Glide, and Buck I St. Pat. Gabby Glide was the former world champ for a 4-year-old gelding. Macho Lindy, sired by Lindy Lane and owned by Christopher Mazzone, won for the second straight start at Pocono and eighth time overall in 28 career races, pushing his career earnings over $97,000.
