After a recount by Ernst and Young, and two meetings to review the election for directors in USTA District 8A, the election committee appointed by Pat Quaglietta has determined that Stephane Bouchard and Mike Kimelman are the new directors, succeeding Quaglietta and John Grasso. Less than 10 votes separated Kimelman, Grasso and Quaglietta. At the District 8A meeting held on Jan. 17, with more than 100 members in attendance at Yonkers Raceway, the voting showed that driver Stephane Bouchard had received 222 votes, incumbent John Grasso had received 201 votes, Mike Kimelman had received 200 votes, and the other incumbent, Pat Quaglietta, had gotten 195 votes. Track director Bob Galterio announced at the meeting that the outcome of the election was going to be challenged.
The District 8A election committee was comprised of Bob Galterio, the district chairman, USTA director Joe Faraldo, and USTA member Peter Younger, and it met on Jan. 26 and 27 for the purpose of determining the fate of the questioned ballots. Grasso and Quaglietta were also in attendance to observe the proceedings.
The District 8A election committee also made three recommendations to USTA President Phil Langley:
