Red Mile Grand Circuit gets off to a bang

Return Home
September 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The two-week Grand Circuit meet at The Red Mile got off to a "bang-up start" Tuesday afternoon when drivers Tim Tetrick and Dan Shetler collided while directing their horses in opposite directions prior to the first race on the card.

Shetler was behind Heavenly Good and Tetrick up behind Oh I Wish when their sulky wheels hooked together, with Tetrick reportedly being dumped to the racetrack. According to paddock judge Billy Perrelli, the state veterinarian checked the two horses and both were approved to race. However, according to Perrelli, Tetrick's sulky suffered heavy damage and he had to seek a replacement. Perrelli said he was unsure of the status of Shetler's sulky.

Both drivers were unhurt and continued on with their mounts. Heavenly Good went on to finish third in the afternoon's opener, with Oh I Wish taking home the fifth-place check.
