Red Mile qualifiers canceled

Wednesday morning qualifiers at The Red Mile, which were scheduled to include starts by Peter Haughton Memorial winner Donato Hanover, 2005 Trotter of the Year Mr. Muscleman, and Little Brown Jug hopeful Western Cyclone, were canceled due to prolonged rain in Lexington. Qualifiers have been rescheduled for Friday and will be redrawn.

Donato Hanover has not started since winning the $456,000 Haughton Aug. 3 at the Meadowlands. Trainer Steve Elliott had listed himself to drive the Andover Hall colt in the qualifer. Mr. Muscleman made his first appearance in a year last week in a qualifier, posting a 1:59.1 win with Noel Daley's assistant trainer Brendan Johnson in the bike.

Western Cyclone, whose lone victory in 2006 came in the North America Cup consolation in a career-best 1:49.4, has not started since finishing sixth in the Cane Pace final Labor Day at Freehold. Trainer Travis Alexander has told harnessracing.com that he felt confident that Western Cyclone, who has battled Lyme disease throughout the year, would be a factor in the Sept. 21 Little Brown Jug at the Delaware, Ohio County fairgrounds.
