Red Star Hottie is red hot

June 16, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Forced to tuck by a blistering early pace, Red Star Hottie raced powerfully first over to capture Tuesday’s $25,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap in 1:50.3, shaving a tick from her own Meadows track record for older pacing mares.

With McGibson taking the field through a demanding first half in 26.1/54.3, Red Star Hottie settled in fourth. When Dave Palone moved her uncovered down the backside, she blew by McGibson and drew off to down the second-over Personal Ad by a length. Cams Van Go rallied for show.

The time bettered the record Red Star Hottie established just five weeks ago. Ron Burke trains the 5-year-old daughter of As Promised-Whitehorse Fever, who triumphed for the fifth time in her last six starts, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

Another track record, albeit a more obscure mark, fell when Streetwise Hall took a $30,000 claiming trot at 1-1/4 miles in 2:27.3. The previous record for a 1-1/4-mile trot, 2:28, was established by Night Court Dan in 1997 and equaled this year by Tudy. Eric Ledford drove Streetwise Hall, an 8-year-old Conway Hall-So So Beach gelding who has won four of his last five outings, for trainer Mike Watson and owner Melvin Fink.

Palone, Ledford and Brett Miller each drove three winners on the 14-race card. (The Meadows)
