Red White Blues invasion

June 16, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

In a field filled with the top female pacers in Florida, it was Meadowlands invader Red White Blues that captured the featured $15,500 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Handicap Pace at Pompano Park on Friday, stopping the timer in 1:54.3.

Starting from post four with trainer/ driver Bruce Ranger at the helm, Red White Blues found a comfortable spot on the pylons in fifth-place as race favorite Tintabella N (Daryl Bier) worked hard to make the early lead, showing the way through a swift opening quarter mile in :27.1.

As the field moved by the grandstand for the first time, Ranger angled Red White Blues off the inside to begin an extended first-over journey, slowly grinding away at Tintabella N as that one cut out middle fractions of :57.3 and 1:26.1.

Midway through the final turn, Red White Blues finally pushed her way to the front, entering the stretch with a 1 3/4-length advantage over a rapidly weakening Tintabella N.

Despite her long voyage on the outside, Red White Blues never wavered down the lane, as the daughter of Majestic Blue  sprinted away from her rivals in the final yards to prevail by 3 1/4 lengths at the wire.

Red White Blues returned $10.40, $6.80, $6.80 for the victory. Montana Moonlite A (John Kakaley) paid $4.00, $3.60 for second, while My Metallica (Tom Sells) brought in $9.60 for third.

Owned by the Fred Monteleone Stable LLC, Red White Blues has visited the winner’s circle twice this year following a 2006 campaign that saw the Illinois-bred prevail in six of 18 outings.
