The New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority Board of Commissioners Thursday named Lennon Register, a current Pennwood Racing executive, as senior vice president of racing, effective August 2008, after Dennis Dowd was named to the position of senior vice president of legal and governmental affairs, which had been vacant due to retirement.

NJSEA president and CEO Dennis Robinson welcomed Register back to the NJSEA as “one of the most highly respected racing and financial management executives in the business. He comes back to us at a most critical time in the history of Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth Park.”

As senior vice president of racing, Register will oversee the operations of both NJSEA racetracks, coming to East Rutherford after nine years as Chief Financial Officer for Pennwood Racing LP. Pennwood operates Freehold Raceway and has licenses to operate four OTW locations. Register’s primary responsibilities there included financial management, profitability enhancement, project management and staff development.

Register previsouly served the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority from 1985-1998, concluding that time as assistant vice president of financial operations.

“Dennis Dowd’s unique combination of legal, governmental and racing experience make him the perfect choice for this important Authority post,” stated NJSEA chairman Carl Goldberg. “Among the highest priorities for Mr. Dowd will be the siting and opening of our remaining Off Track Wagering facilities. Favorites at Woodbridge has been an enormous success, we have received site approval in Bayonne and have additional active discussions underway. Dennis will also bring us leadership on the multitude of legal and legislative issues that face the Authority on a daily basis.” (Meadowlands)
