Reibercrombie declared ineligible for Levy

The 5-year-old pacer Reibercrombie, entered in Saturday night's opening round of the George Morton Levy Series at Yonkers Raceway while under a 90-day suspension imposed by the Ontario Racing Commission as a result of a positive test earlier this month, has been scratched. According to the New York State Racing and Wagering Board director of communications Lee Park, Reibercrombie's scratch came after "the presiding judges at every track in New York have been instructed to honor stewards' list prohibitions from any jurisdiction."

 

Reibercrombie won a division of the second round of the Cam Fella Series March 3 at Woodbine Racetrack, but had the positive for the Class III drug Ephedrine and Phenylpropanolamine after a second-place finish in the Cam Fella opener on Feb. 25. Reibercrombie was suspended 90 days, from March 20 through May 3. Trainer Casie Coleman, who shares ownership of Reibercrombie with Steve Calhoun, was given a 45-day suspension from March 20 through May 3 and a $5,000 fine. She will also have to serve two years probation following the ending of the suspension.

 

Reibercrombie had drawn post six in the second of six $50,000 divisions of the Levy Series, and was listed as the 5-1 third choice. Andrew Harris, who works for Coleman, was the listed trainer.

 

Last year, the 3-year-old filly trotter Crys Dream was also suspended for 90 days by the Ontario Racing Commission following a positive test after her win in the Elegantimage final, which would have then made her ineligible for the Hambletonian Oaks a few weeks afterward at the Meadowlands. Her owners made a successful plea to the New Jersey Supreme Court, which granted a stay of the order that subsequently allowed her to race.
