Sending out two charges in three divisions of the Casual Breeze this Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack, trainer/driver Riina Rekila remains optimistic about her contenders.
Random Destiny, who upset Poof Shes Gone in her most recent outing in an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Final, drew post five in her division. Sired by Ken Warkentin, the filly made $200,000 very quietly last year for Overseas Farm of Campbellville, Ontario.
The Casual Breeze will mark Random Destiny’s toughest contest to date taking on the best 3-year-old fillies in North America. Early morning favorite Bramalea Hanover will start from post six for trainer Bob McIntosh while Bone A Fide has been installed as the second choice for trainer Ron Burke and will be leaving from post four.
"I think she can handle going against the top 3-year-olds on Friday night. If luck is on our side and the driver doesn’t make too many mistakes, I think we’ll be fine," Rekila told WEG’s media department. Please remember that Rekila also drives her filly.
Rekila’s other charge is Christiana Hanover, who recently was victorious in a division of the $40,500 Currier & Ives at The Meadows last week. The daughter of Andover Hall made headlines last year winning her elimination of the Breeders Crown, defeating Costa Rica. Christiana Hanover, who will start from post three in her division, will have her hands full taking on millionaire and O’Brien Award winner Poof Shes Gone, who will start from the rail.
"I don’t think we can beat her (Poof Shes Gone)," Rekila commented. "We will try and give her a good race and maybe get a good cheque. It’s difficult to compare her to these other top fillies."
