Reve D Amerik turned in a track-record equaling performance in winning the $36,000 Preferred Trot Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack. The five-year-old Fill V gelding stopped the clock in 1:52 to match the previous track standard set by the great Mr Muscleman back in September of 2005. In Friday’s contest, driver Mario Baillargeon left sharply with Reve D Amerik and had the trotter sitting third as the field hit the first marker in :28 seconds. At that point, Baillargeon pointed his charge to the outside and brushed him to the lead just before the first half of :56.1. Meanwhile, Mark MacDonald sent Queen Serene to the lead and once on top, she sprinted past three-quarters in 1:24. As the field turned into the stretch, Queen Serene began to come back to the field and it was at that point that Baillargeon tipped his trotter out for the drive. Once clear, Reve D Amerik powered away from his rivals for the multiple-length score. Armbro Continental rallied to finish a well-beaten second with J M Vangogh rounding out the top three. Friday’s win for the Ben Baillargeon trainee was his fifth of the campaign in 17 starts. The victory boosted his seasonal bankroll to just over $140,000 for owners Germaine Ravary and Madeleine Lefebvre of Les Cedres, Qc. (Mohawk)
