The final of the 2007 Art Rooney Pace is worth $1 million--the richest race ever in Yonkers Raceway history--it was announced by general manager Bob Galterio. The 17th edition of the Rooney, which returns to Yonkers for the first time since 2003, attracted 14 three year olds.
Two, $40,000 elimination races are scheduled for this Saturday night, with first four finishers in each elim earning berths for the Saturday, June 2 final...and the first-ever seven-figure event held at Yonkers Raceway. "We've envisioned the day when our biggest races would be worth this type of money," general manager Bob Galterio said. "We're ecstatic to have the Rooney as the first of what we anticipate to be many million-dollar events, making Yonkers Raceway once again the premier harness racing facility in North America. "We are also looking at million-dollar finals for both of our Triple Crown events, the (Aug. 25) Yonkers Trot and (Oct. 27) Messsenger Stakes," Galterio said. (Yonkers)
