The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority (KHRA) has named Rich Williams as its presiding judge at the state’s Standardbred racetracks. Williams, 44, begins his duties Tuesday, April 1, at Bluegrass Downs in Paducah, and he will later serve in the same role at The Red Mile in Lexington and Thunder Ridge in Prestonsburg. A native of Indiana, Williams is following in the footsteps of his father, Dick Williams II, and grandfather, Dick Williams, in furthering a career as a horseman into one as a racing official. Rich Williams, most recently the presiding judge at Raceway Park in Toledo, Ohio, is also an associate judge at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair. He previously served as an associate judge at Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs and the Indiana State Fair. “I am very honored to be in Kentucky with its deep tradition and commitment to horse racing,” said Williams. “I am proud to be a part and help continue the tradition.” Marc A. Guilfoil, deputy director of the KHRA, said, “We are excited to have Rich Williams’ work ethic and character become part of the Standardbred industry in Kentucky. He arrives with great credentials and the respect of the horse communities at the places he previously worked, and we expect that to continue here in the Bluegrass.” (KHRA)
