Last
week, Ridgeline pulled first-over on the heavy favorite and scored at
14-1. It seemed an improbable scenario, but on Friday at The Meadows it
was deja vu all over again as Ridgeline’s uncovered challenge to the
7-10 Martys Charm carried him to victory in the $25,000 Preferred
Handicap pace.
Ridgeline’s earlier win made
converts of some bettors, who sent him off as the 4-1 third choice.
Nevertheless, when trainer-driver Ed Hensley sent Ridgeline after
Martys Charm, who had captured five straight Preferred events at The
Meadows, the move appeared destined for failure. But Ridgeline
persevered, defeating his game rival by a head, in 1:55.4, on the good
strip. Pacey Deucey was a rallying third.
