River Shark saved ground early and nipped the leader Glad To Be Back in the final strides to take the $22,500 opening round of the Robert J. Suslow Series in 152.1 on Saturday night.
River Shark, trained by Dave Sabatelli, posted his first win of the season with Dan Dube at the lines. The son of Four Starzzz Shark-Riverview Diamond was a $9,000 yearling purchase at the Lexington Selected Sale. Sabatelli shares ownership of the colt with Carmine Fusco and Aaron Waxman. The Suslow Series continues with a second leg on April 11.
