Road to the Meadowlands Pace

Return Home
June 27, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Tell All is resting on his North America Cup laurels for now. The son of 2001 Meadowlands Pace winner Real Desire will either train or qualify at the Meadowlands. Blair Burgess will try to become the fourth trainer to win the North America Cup and the Meadowlands Pace with the same horse, and will be seeking his third Meadowlands Pace victory.  He previously won with Frugal Gourmet (1987) and Real Desire (2001).

Sutter Hanover took the week off after finishing second in the North America Cup. Trainer Mark Harder won the 2004 Meadowlands Pace with longest shot in the race's history, Holborn Hanover. Always A Virgin won the New Jersey Sire Stakes Final with authority this past weekend and erased doubts from those who thought him to be just a talented state-bred. Kenneth J got a little redemption by capturing the New York Sire Stakes on Saturday at Vernon Downs, getting up in the final strides to win 1:50.4.

"That was a heck of a race," said owner Ken Jacobs afterwards. "He was sick when he finished fifth in the North America Cup."

Artriverderci is freshening up after his fourth-place finish in the North America Cup. Yankee Skyscaper looks to rebound from his sixth-place finish in that race. After winning the North America Cup consolation, Laughing Art finished seventh in a conditioned race on Saturday at Mohawk. Mr Apples seems to be on track for the Pace after winning a New York Sire Stakes division at Vernon in 1:54.2 on Saturday.

After finishing third in his Cleveland Classic division, Home Bed Advantage is finding out that the same weapons you win with at two don't seem to fire with the same intensity at three. Unless a horse can leave the gate in a huge hurry, he automatically compromises any chance he has, but this horse is a very talented grinding type who is clearly
better on a bigger track.

Southwind Lynx stays on the list solely on the basis of his million-dollar win in the Rooney a few weeks ago, but that race and the Pace final will have little in common.
