Robinson fined, former employee suspended

Trainer Bill Robinson has received a $1,000 fine from the Ontario Racing Commission for failing to ensure the integrity of an employee, Patrick Fletcher, who has received a two-month suspension from July 1 through Aug. 28 for an incident last March at Western Fair Raceway.

A trailer bringing two Robinson-trained horses to race that night was stopped at the stable gate and a search reportedly revealed a vial, powder substance and syringes inside the trailer. Fletcher was found to be in possession of those items, although it has never been revealed what the substance was. Robinson was in Florida at the time.

“I can't control what people put in my truck,” Robinson told Standardbred Canada after his fine was announced. “I let (Fletcher) go the day after the incident and told him not to come back until he cleaned himself up. I haven't seen him since. I don't even know if he's working or not.”
