Illinois Colt Stakes champions Rock Hollywood and Power Of A Moment successfully defended their titles at the Illinois State Fair at Springfield on Wednesday, capturing their respective $35,000 divisions. Dave Magee directed Rock Hollywood from post eight to a 1:54 victory in the event for sophomore colt and gelding trotters. The career-best win was the second of the year in six starts for the son of Psychic Spirit trained by Mike Brink and owned by Kjell Magne Anderson of Norway. His career earnings now top $150,000. Brink noted afterward that Rock Hollywood’s next start is Sunday, Aug. 22, with the trotter drawing post three in the $100,000 Colonial Trot Consolation II at Harrah’s Chester. Power Of A Moment, driven by Marcus Miller for trainer Erv Miller, scored a 1:50.4 victory in the race for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers. The gelded son of Cole Muffler led at every call and closed out the mile with a last quarter of :25.3 to seal the decision. Erv Miller noted afterward that Power Of A Moment, who he shares ownership of with Leland Mathias and Bert Hochsprung, will next race at Du Quoin and then on Super Night at Balmoral Park. The win increased Power Of A Moment’s career earnings to more than $360,000.
