There were few seats available in the main auction arena when the second night of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale got underway, but shoppers were still in a conservative mood as the 146 horses that went through the ring generated an average of $52,918, down 14 percent from last year’s second-session average of $61,606.
The sale was led by a colt by pacing sire Rocknroll Hanover. Hip number 180, Rock Solid, was sold with a final bid of $225,000 from Myron Bell, who was acting as agent for John Fodera. Cameo Hills Farm consigned the colt, whose dam is the Artsplace daughter Sweet On Art p, 1:52.4. She has two previous foals, including the filly Wild West Show p,3, 1:53.3f.
Eleven other yearlings brought six-figure prices, including two fillies from the first crop of trotting sire Glidemaster that each were sold for $145,000. Hip 201, a filly out of Diminutive (the dam of Friendly Amigo 3, 1:57), went to Covenant Standardbreds and hip 245, from Dream Angel, a sister to Dream Vacation, was sold to Tony Lindquist.
Another noteworthy six-figure price was paid for a Camluck brother to this year’s Metro Pace winner Sportswriter. Trainer Josh Green, acting as agent, had the last bid at $120,000.

Offspring by Rocknroll Hanover, Glidemaster, Chocolatier and Yankee Glide are giving the sale its greatest strengths. The 29 yearlings by Rocknroll sold through Thursday night averaged $76,034. The first crops of Glidemaster and Chocolatier were averaging $81,385 and $72,765, respectively, while Yankee Glide’s 17 yearlings had sold for an average price of $79,353.
