Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at noon on Thursday at racetracks throughout North America and Europe and internet sites. Future wagering will be offered through 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. This year's Little Brown Jug is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds.
The future wager allows fans to bet early on all 3 year olds. The minimum bet is $2 and all future wagers are win betting only. Every 3-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the $650,000 (est.) Little Brown Jug. Eliminations for the Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway will be Saturday, Aug. 28 and the Cane Pace Final on Sept. 6. The field is rated at 15-1 in the morning line.
Battle of the Brandywine winner Rock N Roll Heaven (6-1) is the morning line favorite in the first future jug pool. Bruce Saunders trains Rock N Roll Heaven for owner Frank Bellino of Bronxville, N.Y. The colt has seven wins in 12 starts and earnings of more than $900,000 this season. Despite the sloppy conditions, the Daniel Dube-driven Rock N Roll Heaven equalled the 1:48.4 world record in beating One More Laugh and We Will See in the Battle of the Brandywine.
Meadowlands Pace champion One More Laugh is next at odds of (8-1). Ray Schnittker trains One More Laugh and shares ownership with Mathias Meinzinger and Jerry Silva. He is driven by Tim Tetrick. Next in the morning are Delmarvalous and Rockin Image, both at odds of 10-1.
“This is the most wide-open Jug we’ve had in years,” said Jason Settlemoir, simulcast coordinator. “There are so many top 3 year olds that it is very difficult to separate them and this should make for interesting future wagers.”
Complete past performance lines for all Jug eligibles will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug web site: www.littlebrownjug.com.
A team of racing analysts and handicappers selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was then assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the two future wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order. The second future wagering pool will be Sunday, Sept. 19, through Wednesday, Sept. 22, the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.
“This is the fifth year our fans at the track in Delaware will have the opportunity to place wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing.
Last year, Jug champion Well Said paid $5.80 in the first pool; $6.60 in the second pool; and $6.80 in the final.
