It was spring of 2005 and Rocknroll Hanover was beginning his three-year-old campaign with three starts at the Meadowlands. He won all three – a New Jersey Sire Stakes on May 14, his elimination division of the New Jersey Classic on May 21 and the $500,000 New Jersey Classic Final on May 28. This series of successes would jumpstart a Horse of the Year season that included victories in the North America Cup, Meadowlands Pace and Breeders Crown and a lifetime bankroll of $2,754,038. Now nine of his sons will be bidding to continue the family legacy in the $500,000 Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic on June 12, 2010 at the Meadowlands. The nine are among the 17 entrants divided between a pair of $25,000 elimination heats that are carded as the third and tenth races this Saturday, June 5. The Rocknroller’s include Woodstock, BJ’s Bequia, Valentino, Classic Rock Nroll, Sunshine Superman, Summer Camp, Piece Of The Rock, BG’s Folly and Hoosier Cup winner World Of Rocknroll. Five Rocknroll Hanover daughters – Its Only Rocknroll, Put On A Show, Rock N Soul, Rockaroundthetrack and She Just Rocks -- are among the nine entrants who will compete in the co-featured filly companion event, the $175,000 Thomas D’Altrui Miss New Jersey, on June 12. No eliminations were required. The other four fillies are BJ’s Mayreau, Full Picture and Lover Of Art, all by the late Artsplace, and Naughtytiltheend, who is by Western Ideal. The New Jersey Classic and Miss New Jersey, which are restricted to New Jersey-sired three-year-old pacers, are sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey, representing the owners, breeders, drivers, trainers and caretakers of the Garden State, and named to honor two of the organization’s founding members. The sons and daughters of Rocknroll Hanover, who stands at Perretti Farms in Cream Ridge, NJ, are from his first crop to reach the races and have already accounted for $4.8 million in earnings. Of his 124 starters in 2009, 54 reached the winner’s circle. This year 63 of 105 starters have victories to their credit. Leading his earnings list with $850,708 is the filly Put On A Show, who won last week’s $200,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final, and headlines the nine entrants in the 27th edition Miss New Jersey. The Miss New Jersey stakes record of 1:50.1 was established by Galleria in 1998. The New Jersey Classic mark of 1:49.1 was posted in 2006 by Feelin Friskie.
