Rock N Roll Star debuts

Rock N Roll Star, winner of the Bluegrass and International Stallion Stakes at two, returned to the track Friday morning with a 3 ˝-length win in a qualifier at Scioto Downs in 1:58.1. Driven by Kyle Ater, the 3-year-old son of The Panderosa posted fractions of :28.1, :59 and 1:28.4 in the wire-to-wire win over a track rated “sloppy”. The gelding made $186,379 last year and holds a mark of 1:51.3 taken in the Bluegrass.

“It was just a good first mile with him,” said trainer Ron Potter. “I just wanted to go 1:57 or 1:58 with him and there really wasn’t anybody here to go with him. We’re probably going to qualify him two more times before we stick him in anywhere.”

Potter said he dropped Rock N Roll Star from the Meadowlands Pace because he had gotten sick with plural pneumonia in January, which cost him six weeks of training.

“His first big stake that I’m shooting for is the Adios,” Potter added.

He was a $22,000 yearling purchase for Douglas Shepherd’s F.T.F. Inc.

“It was just a nice easy qualifier and I’m very happy with him,” Potter concluded.
