Roddy's Bags DD Preferred

December 05, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

There were six select pacers staring in the $32,500 Preferred feature and at the wire a neck separated the first five finishers with Roddy's Bags Again winning the 1:52.2 photo by a nose on Monday, Dec. 4 at Dover Downs.

In the feature race, razor-sharp Maximum Viking took the lead at the start for Jim Morand. After the quarter, Eddie Davis Jr. began to move up from last driving Roddy's Bags Again. Around the clubhouse turn, the 4-year-old Dragon Again horse became a serious contender and at the 1:23.4 the front two were head to head.

In the stretch Roddy's Bags Again and Maximum Viking were both racing as a team with the rest of the field fanning out and quickly joining them for the stretch chase. Roddy's Bags Again had just enough to stick his nose out front in 1:52.2. Ross The Boss N and Roger Plante were almost there closing along the passing lane for second. Maximum Viking was still there, but third. Chewy Gross and Ron Pierce were also prominent, but had to settle for fourth with Dream Rocket and Brian Sears only a step behind.

The victory was the second straight and sixth in his previous eight starts for Roddy's Bags Again. The pacer has now won $$225,086 for Bob Messick of Milford, Del.

Clinton Longshot has become the rags-to-riches horse in Delaware. Purchased for a modest figure during the summer, the Dauntless Bunny 4 year old scored his third straight win, fourth in his last six races and six of eight, stepping up through the ranks to reach and win at the $20,000 Delaware Special level. Ross Wolfenden drove the winner for trainer Real Gregoire and owner Marjorie Richards of Harrington, Del.

Jerome Voldock's Sand Sax closed through the middle on the way to a 1:53.3 score in the $25,000 Open Pace. David Miller drove the Presidential Ball 5 year old from the Mickey Burke Stable to his eighth win of the campaign. Quick And Deadly, with Tony Morgan, was next while Midnight Walk, handled by Wolfenden, took third money.

Veteran Crystal Art scored a 1:53.1 win in an $18,500 winners-over pace. Carolyn Franklin and Bo and Greg Laham owned the 6-year-old Artsplace gelding. Lather Machine (Tim Tetrick) and American Fury (Tim Curtin) were second and third, respectively.

Nvincibl Artist rolled past leader Triple The Money (Tetrick) at the top of the lane and on to a 1:52 win in one of two $18,000 winners-over paces. Pierce drove the Real Artist gelding for Fred and Anita Fialkow to the victory with Next Flight and Morand second. Wizsell (Plante) was third.

In the other division, Southern Ruler, with Tetrick, just got up for a 1:53.4 triumph. Jasper Bob (Morgan) raced gamely to finish second. Psilvuheartbreaker (Brad Hanners) was next. (Dover Downs)
