December 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The 2006 closing night at Rosecroft Raceway celebrated the careers of horses and horsemen alike; presentations were made throughout the evening for Horse of the Year, Driver and Trainer of the Year as well as several retirements ceremonies.

One of the most notable events was in the final race of the card. Rosecroft’s leading reinsman John Wagner hit 4,500 career driving wins with Champagne Bliss in "The Merry Christmas Pace". The 4-year-old Blissfull Hall horse, owned and trained by Betsy Brown, drew away for the win by more than 19 lengths in 1:56.1.

In the same race, both Paper Network and Bonus Buy saw the track for the last times of their careers. Paper Network, a 12-year-old gelded son of Artsplace, has 54 lifetime wins and more than $314,000 in career earnings. Hailing from the barn of Rosecroft’s leading trainer Manley Brown Jr. Paper Network has a lifetime mark of 1:52 set at Colonial Downs during his 9-year-old season.

Bonus Buy, a 14-year-old In The Pocket gelding owned and trained by Patricia Ogonowski, also has 54 lifetime wins and nearly $330,000 in earnings. Bonus Buy holds a lifetime mark of 1:55.4.

Yankee Chap also retired. The 14-year-old Pershing Square gelding, a winner of 51 lifetime starts, is owned by Jaime Lynn Morgan.

The 2006 Rosecroft Raceway Horse of the Year is Crazy For Ever. The 5-year-old Life Sign gelding, co-owned by George Bartlett and Alvin Mindel, has a seasonal line of 12-8-4 across the board from 37 starts and more than $96,000 earned this year. Crazy For Ever took his lifetime mark of 1:50.4 at Rosecroft Raceway on June 20, 2006.

Rosecroft will present live racing on Saturdays and Mondays during the 2007 meet. The first date back will be Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 with post time set for 7:20 p.m. (Rosecroft)
